Youth for Innocence is excited to offer ONLINE SUMMER INTERNSHIPS for high school and college students!

A flyer containing details about

Over the course of 6 weeks, immerse yourself in wrongful conviction cases, learning the legal and investigative tools Youth for Innocence employs to expedite the exoneration process. You’ll collaborate with other students, summarizing transcripts and drafting discovery motions. As you learn more information about the case, you might delve into investigative work, contacting witnesses and discovering new evidence. At the end of the internship, your team will give a presentation on your case, either to our team or a wrongful convictions attorney, to convince them to take on the case.

Throughout this internship, you’ll learn:

  • A deep understanding of the legal process for criminal trials, covering how the system should work and how the system actually works

  • What role different documents play in a criminal proceeding

  • How to summarize and evaluate a wrongful conviction case

  • The paths for investigating a wrongful conviction case

This summer internship will run from June 24 to August 4. Applications will close on June 21. Preliminary information will be sent out by email on June 23. We will accept late applications until June 30.

We have no set hours since most of your online work will be asynchronous. For this internship, we ask that you commit at least 15 hours per week. We are a 501(c)3 organization, so we can verify community service hours if needed. If you are unable to commit this amount of time but still want to help out, become a volunteer by completing the training here.

No prior experience is needed, although if we receive more applicants than spots available, we will evaluate applicants based on their prior experience in law, as well as a variety of other factors. Spot availability depends on the number of cases being processed by Youth for Innocence.

If you are interested, please fill out the following form: https://forms.gle/8JAjNpdy1ki3Vn457. We can’t wait for you to join us!
