Youth for Innocence is excited to unveil its new chapter program! With our new initiative, we aim to foster in-person collaboration and impact local communities. Our new program will empower chapters at high schools and colleges around the nation to work on local wrongful conviction cases, freeing the innocent and directly impacting surrounding populations.

Youth for Innocence chapters function as clubs or associations on high school and college campuses across America. With our unique, online training program, volunteers can learn our innovative techniques for innocence cases and apply them within their communities to create local, tangible impact. Additionally, in-person collaboration can create new possibilities for investigative work, with access to the crime scene and people of interest.

Here’s how the chapter application process works:

  1. Submit the chapter application: you can find more instructions here.

  2. Complete the training course: all volunteers will be trained through Youth for Innocence’s online training program.

  3. Start working! Youth for Innocence will provide you with cases within your region.*

We have a few requirements for prospective chapters. Firstly, you must have at least 5 volunteers with your organization, so that the chapter can truly reap the benefits of in-person collaboration among a team of volunteers. Secondly, you must dedicate at least 20 hours per week collectively towards your innocence work, ensuring that your case continues to move forward closer to exoneration. Finally, you must establish an in-person meeting space, where you’ll meet to cohesively divide responsibilities and communicate on innocence work.

Additionally, Youth for Innocence chapters will be eligible for funding from Youth for Innocence to sponsor guest speakers and other activities on campus. Once you establish a chapter and have worked for at least 3 months on a wrongful conviction case, you can propose projects and request funding.

If you have any questions about the chapter program, reach out to info@youthforinnocence.org. We’re looking forward to working with you!

*Local wrongful conviction cases depend on current case intake at the time of request. Chapters are welcome to intake their own cases if they know about any wrongful convictions in their area.
